  15. <p>     DIED. LOWELL NESBITT, 59, painter; of natural causes; in New
  16. York City. Nesbitt was best known for his huge, popular paintings
  17. of flowers, rendered in dramatic close-ups. The artist had planned
  18. to leave more than a million dollars to Washington's public
  19. Corcoran Gallery, but withdrew the bequest after the museum
  20. cancelled a show of photos by his friend Robert Mapplethorpe,
  21. including some with homoerotic themes.
